Reinterpretation of the Anderson/Wilson screenplay
employs an expressive, experimental, purely typographic visual language.
Each color in the book correlates to a different character’s voice or a scene’s relationship to a specified character. Each typeface/family also represents the demeanor, mannerisms, and expressive nature of a certain voice or individual character.
I used scale to depict the scene setting. For a scene taking place inside the Tenenbaum’s game closet, I placed the dialogue inside a large scale letter D, with points of tension and conflict penetrating the letter structure itself. [main]
In the dialogue between Royal and his grandsons at their mother’s grave, Royal’s compassionate side exists in the black box. It then emerges as an organic progression, symbolizing the sacred connection to his grandsons through the ground on which they stand. [top]
